“Éditions 1989 is a cutting-edge press that opens minds.”
– Les Inrockuptibles
Éditions 1989 is a non-profit organization founded in 2022 to publish biographical books of overlooked figures and artists' writings.
Our catalog includes Gay Guerrilla: L'histoire de Julius Eastman (2022), exploring the life of the avant-garde composer who challenged musical and social conventions, and Who Are You Dorothy Dean? (2024), uncovering an influential yet elusive figure from Warhol's Factory and New York's underground art world. Through meticulous research and thoughtful presentation, we recover forgotten artistic legacies at the intersection of different disciplines and social movements, introducing them to contemporary audiences. Each publication serves as both historical document and contribution to ongoing conversations about artistic practice, cultural memory, and representation in the arts.
Éditions 1989 was founded by Anaïs Ngbanzo.
